Spring 2011 • Recent Happenings…

Hello all! Nikki here. Today has been a great day – busy busy busy!

This morning, we woke up early and headed out to church at Mukono. When we arrived, Pastor Davis was finishing the 8am service, so he had us come up and introduce ourselves. Shortly after, the 10am service began.

Introducing ourselves at Mukono Community Church.

The first hour or so was spent in worship. INCREDIBLE! It was unlike any worship time I have experienced before. There was singing, dancing, shouting, jumping… these people LOVE Jesus – and they are not afraid to show it! Parts were in English and parts were in Luganda, but there was still an amazing spirit of worship.

After the time of worship, Pastor Steve preached a message about the Gospel to the people of Mukono Community Church. We passed out Gospel pamphlets, so now our pamphlets have not only spread throughout Gahanna, but in Mukono as well! It was an honor for the people of Mukono to have Steve preach because, as Davis put it, there is a deep respect for lead pastors of churches.

After service, the people left and we headed to Davis’ home for lunch. We had chicken, rice, peas, potatoes, and more. Betty, Pastor Davis’ wife, was feeling ill, and mentioned that she thought she might have malaria. She went to the hospital and is being kept overnight, and they have determined that it is malaria. Please pray for her!! She is very dear to us.

We met with Davis to discuss our women’s conference, which begins tomorrow. We had some last minute changes, which are slightly stressful, but TIA (This is Africa). We are being stretched and taken out of our comfort zone, which is probably a good thing! Pray for us as we do last minute preparations to create extra sessions as well as figure out exactly what to do.

Finally, we headed over to the soccer field that the church rented. The church members were playing soccer and net-ball against other people from Mukono. This was a fun time! Cindy, Mimi, and Claude gave short testomonies/messages during half time. Then, we headed out to attempt to avoid some traffic. We still ended up driving about 1 hour and 45 minutes to get home. Yikes! Traffic here is crazy. Cars, people, Boda-Bodas (motor bikes), trucks all competing for space on the road. The rule is the larger vehicle has the right of way, so there is lots of honking, flashing of lights, and swerving around smaller vehicles. That is one of those things you can not understand until you experience it first hand. Wow.

Traffic... this is MILD!

We are sitting in the guest house now, resting, eating dinner, and preparing for the conference tomorrow. Continue to pray for us! We are experiencing a new culture, jet-lag, and learning to be completely flexible! We love you all, miss you, and look forward to telling you more about our adventures when we are home!

We had a visitor in our guest house this evening... YIKES!!
